Burglary
A building that looks unoccupied and insecure is an easy target
for burglars.
Your belongings may mean a lot to you but to a thief they’re just a
way of making quick and easy cash.
Essex remains one of the safest counties in the UK but that
doesn’t mean we can afford to become complacent.

Essex Police and Essex County Council are working together to keep
you and your property safe in your local community. Together we've
launched our Beat the Burglar
campaign.
Did you know that most burglaries are preventable?
Beating the burglar is easy. A few simple security precautions
can stop them in their tracks. To find out more take a look at our
security advice on the next few pages or visit the
Keeping Essex Safe
website.
A convicted burglar has also spoken out in a bid to encourage
homeowners to think about security.
The film above highlights the motives and methods used by burglars
and reminds you to lock doors and windows and keep valuables out of
view.
How we can help
It’s up to you to protect your property and
possessions but you don’t have to do it alone – we have a team of
Crime

Officers (ALO) to help.
The officers are on hand
throughout the county to give practical advice on how to keep your
home, car and other valuables safe.
They’re here to help so don’t hesitate to contact them.
On the next few pages you’ll find their advice on:
Follow their advice to keep your home as safe as houses.
If you are having a new home built, consider taking advice
from our Architectural Liaison
Officers.
If you are moving to a newly built home, check with the landlord,
estate agent or sales team that it has been certified by
