Engineering
Essex Police is working with Essex County Council to make the
county’s roads a safer place for motorcyclists.
Whether that
means putting up new road signs or completely re-designing a
carriageway, we’re working on schemes to reduce crashes and
casualties on some of the most dangerous roads in Essex.
Accident hotspots
We work with a team at Essex County Council to
identify accident hotspots known as collision cluster spots. Once
identified, the dedicated council team, based at County Hall in
Chelmsford, secure funding to overcome the problem and in turn
reduce collisions in these areas.
To do this, we need your help. We need you to tell us what can
be done to make our roads safer for drivers on two wheels.
We encourage your ideas and do listen so if you spot something
that needs to change please let us know by completing our feedback
form. Your concerns will be raised with Essex County Council
with a view to making improvements.
Your suggestions are working.
Last year the number of bikers killed or
seriously injured on some of the county’s busiest roads was more
than halved thanks to engineering changes, enforcement and road
safety advice.
Operation Twister saw officers identify problem motorcycle
routes in Chelmsford and Braintree districts, research the causes
of crashes and target the routes to reduce the number of motorcycle
casualties.
In 2007, 26 riders were killed or seriously injured on the
A1018, A1010, A138, A1060, B1256, A1017 and A1124. This figure was
reduced to six in 2008.
The operation will be repeated this year.
