Braintree is 2SMART
Young people from schools across the north and west of Essex
flocked to Towerlands Park in Braintree to get the 2SMART
experience.

2SMART is an Essex Police project which aims to give young people
advice about bullying, alcohol, drugs and knives via music, dance,
sport and drama.
The show, held on Thursday, March 25, was attended by more
than 1,500 pupils, mostly aged 11 and 12, from Edith Borthwick,
Honywood Community Science School, Helena Romanes School, Alec
Hunter Humanities College, Notley High School, Friends’ School,
Maltings Academy, Takeley Christian School, Tabor Science College,
New Rickstones Academy, and Gosfield School.
Sgt Cheryl Croxson, youth and partnership specialist in the
Braintree police district, said: “There was a great atmosphere for
both the morning and afternoon events. 2SMART is a great way for
Essex Police to communicate directly with young people and their
families, educating them about the dangers of bullying, alcohol,
drugs and knives.

"Just as importantly, 2SMART provides young people with examples
of what they can do if they, or their friends, experience such
behaviour.
“Essex Police wants to build a relationship of trust and
cooperation with the next generation, and events such as this are a
central part of that ambition.”
Pupils from around Essex are invited to write a song for the 2SMART
tour 2011. The 2SMART team will then judge all entries and select a
winning song, which will be performed at all 2SMART 2011
shows.
Entries can be submitted on the 2SMART website.
The website also includes competitions to win a trip to the Essex
Air Ambulance helicopter base, and a Nintendo Wii.

The University of Essex, Children’s Trust Approach in Essex and

The roadshow’s next stop is the Sports and Athletics Centre in
Chelmsford on Thursday April 22.
Around 15,000 young people will attend the shows throughout Essex
this year.
