William Martin

Served with Essex County Constabulary from Apr 1, 1914 and died on Jan 14, 1917.
Born in Glasgow, the son of George Martin, William gave the Essex Constabulary four months' service from 1st April 1914 before he was reclaimed by the Scots Guards into whose ranks he had enlisted in Glasgow. He was unmarried. Serving as Lance Corporal 7894 in the 1st Battalion he was killed in action on Sunday 14th January 1917 while on attachment to the Machine Gun Corps (Infantry - Scots Guards). He is commemorated on Grave or Reference Panel Number: II. E. 7 at Combles Communal Cemetery Extension in Somme, France.
