Sydney Francis Crabb - Essex County Constabulary.
Served from 24th August 1914. Killed 7th July 1916.

Police Constable Sydney Francis Crabb was born in Brentwood and joined the Essex Constabulary on 24 August 1914. He was one of five unmarried policemen who answered a call from the Chief Constable for army volunteers; consequently, he left the force on 31 May 1915 to enlist in Chelmsford.

He served as Lance Corporal 17615 in the 8th Battalion, Royal Fusiliers, and was killed in action on Friday 7 July 1916 when his battalion was involved in an attack at Ovillers on the Somme.

He is commemorated on pier and face 8 C 9 A and 16 A of the Thiepval Memorial to the Missing, in Somme, France.
