First World War memorialsHarry Beresford Mann Police Constable Harry Beresford Mann was the son of Mrs. Edwards, of St. Margaret's, Ovingdean, Sussex, and husband of Blanche Mann, of 7, Angles Road, Streatham, London. He joined the Southend force on its inception in 1914, having transferred from the Reigate Police in Surrey. Mann, who was married to Blanche, enlisted in Southend in December 1915 and served with ‘L’ Battery of the Royal Horse Artillery as Gunner 126548. He was posted wounded and missing on Friday 30th November 1917 during the Battle of Cambrai and was later presumed to have been killed in action on that date at the age of 29. His is one of 7,048 men with no known grave commemorated on the Cambrai Memorial at Louverval in Nord, France. His name can be found on panel 1. Police Constable 75.
