First World War memorialsWilliam Edward Paxton - Essex County Constabulary. Police Constable William Edward Paxton was the son of Edward and Sarah Anne Paxton, of 118 Sirdar Road, Wood Green, London. He served with Essex County Constabulary at Tilbury from 1st April 1911 to the outbreak of the war on 4th August 1914 when he was recalled to the Colours on 4 August 1914. He had previously enlisted in London with the Coldstream Guards, and it was while serving as Private 7694 in the 2nd Battalion that he and four of his comrades were killed on Saturday 9th October 1915 by the same shell. He was aged 25 and single. He is commemorated on panels 7 and 8 of the Loos Memorial in Pas de Calais, France. Police Constable 114. Serial Number 2681.
