First World War memorialsPhilip George Saban Born in Great Hallingbury on 26th July 1893, he was baptised at the village church on 13th September 1893, the youngest son of William, a labourer, and Emily Saban of 94 Woodside Green, Great Hallingbury, Bishop's Stortford, Hertfordshire. Philip joined the Southend Borough Constabulary in September 1914 and lived in Westcliff-on-Sea. He decided to enlist, in Southend, in December 1915 and served for 19 months as Gunner 126544 in Y Battery of the Royal Horse Artillery. He was wounded in action on Thursday 1st November 1917 and died in a French hospital the following day at the age of 24. He isburied in grave IX. A. I at Grevillers British Cemetery in Pas de
