First World War memorialsErnest George Weavers Born at Carlton Colville, near Lowestoft, in Suffolk, he was the son of Benjamin and Rosamond Weavers of Peacock Terrace in the village. After serving in the Essex County Constabulary he transferred to the Southend Borough Constabulary on its formation on 1 April 1914 and lived in Westcliff-on-Sea. He enlisted in Southend in September 1914 and was killed in action, aged 26, on Tuesday 28th September 1915 at the battle of Loos while serving as Private G/4910 in the 13th Battalion, Middlesex Regiment. He has no known grave and is one of 20,589 men commemorated on the Loos Memorial at Dud Corner Cemetery in Pas de Calais, France. His name can be found on panels 99 to 101. Police Constable 97.
