House burglaries have increased in the West ward as they have throughout the country. If you see suspicious activity, phone us straight away and you may prevent your neighbours' homes being broken into.

Please think about good quality locks and security lighting. If you have a side or rear access to your property please ensure that it is locked when not being used.

Hide your car keys away from doors and wonder and out of view when you are at home. Some burglaries are carried out using a pole through your letter box to get your keys. Other burglars are physically entering your home to get your keys.
In particular, if you have a UVPC door, please ensure that it is locked, and not just shut. UVPC doors are all too often not double locked and make it easier for intruders to gain access to your house.

The area around Lake Meadows is suffering from anti-social behaviour by younger (generally teenage) members of the community.

This is affecting people using those facilities and householders living in the nearby properties. Local operations have been set up to target this problem. Please see our local priorities for full details.

If you have teenage children, please impress on them to behave in an appropriate manner and not be swayed by their peers to commit anti-social acts or cause damage.

Neighbourhood Watch is actively seeking new members, both for existing schemes and new ones. Fred Good is the Billericay Neighbourhood Watch co-ordinator.

Burglaries are on the increase across the district and we would remind people to make sure that they do not leave their house and car keys on display so that people looking into your property can see them. As it is coming up to christmas and people are putting up their christmas decorations and your curtains are open this can give the opportunist to look into your house and see what valuables you have on display

As the weather is getting better supposedly! and people are leaving their windows open at night time can we remind you that if you are going to leave them open can they be locked open and to make sure that back doors are locked. Just recently we have been noticing an increase of theft from motor vehicles whereby people are having windows smashed to their vehicles and sat navs and handbags removed from back and front seats. Please make sure that all valuables that you must leave in a car - which is not the above ones - should be hidden from view to stop the opportunist damaging your vehicle and stealing your property.
