Listed below are a number of events we invite you to come along
to. They’re an opportunity for you to meet the team and discuss any
issues or concerns you have.
Update
There is a telephone scam in operation at the moment. This entails
someone calling you and claiming to be from Microsoft. After
various questions they deem that you have a virus on your computer
and offer to remove it remotely after you have given over your bank
details etc. Essex Police would urge anyone who receives one of
these calls to hang up immediately and then let us know. Call us on
101.
Please do not give them your bank or card details. People are still
receiving these calls – don’t become one of their victims!
One of the Canvey PCSO’s attended a multi agency event recently and
was speaking with the Canvey Town Council Community Warden Jess
Fisher. One of the main issues at the moment is the amount of dog
poo being left all over the Island. Jess is keen to collect any
information regarding the irresponsible owners who don’t feel the
need to clear up after their pets. If you know of a regular
offender then Jess needs to know! Descriptions of owners and dogs,
times, locations or vehicles can be passed to her and the town
council will deal with this issue. This is also often an issue for
PCSO’s too – they are often approached by members of public
complaining of this. If you don’t know the Council warden or don’t
see her then tell the PCSO’s about any offenders. They will be
happy to pass the details on.
You’d be amazed at the number of pedal cycles that are still seen
around the Island that have been left unattended and unlocked. Most
stolen cycles are the insecure ones! For just a few pounds you can
buy a padlock/chain and prevent this happening to you. Please don’t
become another cycle theft statistic on our records. Like a lot of
crime, cycle theft can often be easily avoided by a moment to
secure it!
SatNav's - Please remember to remove these from your unattended
vehicles as there are still thefts being reported from residents
who have left them in their cars overnight. It is also best
practice not to enter your address into the satnav under the title
of home, (input your address but give it another title). For
example, if your vehicle was parked at a shopping centre and its
was subsequently stolen - all the thief would have to do would be
select 'Home' from the Satnav directory and it would reveal where
you live- taking them straight to your unattended home.
Police are warning users of social media websites such as Facebook
to check their security settings as burglars have a habit of
targeting unoccupied homes . A house in Wisbech was ransacked and
computers, jewellery, DVDS and a purse were stolen as a result of
the homeowners being monitored via their Facebook account.
Please adjust your privacy settings accordingly and never update
your status with details of when you are out or on holiday.
Anyone being cold called by security companies are strongly advised
to terminate the call and report the caller to Consumer Direct on
08454 040506. Under no circumstances at all should an appointment
be made for a security survey to be carried out - those who
disregard this advice stand a very good chance of being conned out
of their hard earned money.
Crime prevention
There is now a leaflet display in the foyer of Castle Point Council
Offices which contains crime prevention leaflets and lots more
useful advice.
You can take action in a number of ways to help make your
neighbourhood a safer place to live, work and visit.
