Update
NUISANEC COLD CALLING TELEPHONE CALLS
Many of you will no doubt have received calls from persons claiming
that there bas been an increase in crime in your area. These person
may lead you to believe that they are calling from a Local Police
Station or claim that they work in crime prevention/reduction or
specialise in security measures.
Please be aware that - THESE PERSONS ARE NOT RELATED TO ANY POLICE
FORECE.
Often they may ask you questions about home secrity measures along
with other squestions about yourselves. DO NOT ANSWER ANY
QUESTIONS
The callers may attempt to make an appointment for a suitable time
to carry out a home visit. DO NOT BE TEMPTED OR PRESSURED INTO
THIS.
Essex Police advice is not to be fooled by these persons. It may be
an idea to have an answer ready so that you are prepared for these
type of calls.
So what should you say?
Mention that you have already been in touch with Essex Police
regarding home security and therefore do not need any further
advice or home visits.
Or Simply say no thank you and put the phone down.
Should you have any concerns about home security the Essex Police
Crime Reduction Officers will be pleased to answer any questions
that you have and if need be can visit you to advise further.
If you do feel that you have been a victim of cold calling
regarding home security then contact Trading Standards
On March 23, 2012, the south woodham neighbourhood policing team
executed a warrant under the Misuse of Drugs Act at a property in
Meadow Lane, Runwell. Officers seized over 100 cannabis plants in
various stages of growth, and a car which is believed to have been
stolen.
A 48-year-old unemployed local man was arrested, and has been
released on police bail on suspicion of drugs offences and theft of
a motor vehicle to return South Woodham Ferrers police station on
May 28, 2012.
The nights are drawing in earlier now so please remember to shut
all windows if you leave your house. There has been an increase in
burglaries across the county. Please can everyone be extra vigilant
when out and about. Please ensure that your premises are left
secured with all windows and doors locked when you leave. Do not
leave valuable items on display. We would like to remind everyone
that good home security is critical to prevent these crimes from
happening. Just by pulling the handle on your PVC door up does not
always secure your door - it needs to be double locked. The harder
you make it for burglars the less likely it is they will bother
targeting your house. If you would like a member of your local
policing team to come to you and offer you a home security
assessment and security advice, please contact your local
team.
Essex Police will take positive action against all those committing
Anti-Social Behaviour and its our aim to improve the quality of
lives who its affected. The Mobile CCTV van has been and will
continue to be deployed throughout the area. The van has recording
capabilities within and therefore any Anti-Social Behaviour being
committed may be recorded and could be used as evidence.
Please remember at all times to lock your cars and ensure any
valuables are not left in vehicles overnight. If anything has to be
left in a vehicle ensure it is tucked away out of sight. If you use
a satallite navigation unit please ensure you clean all sucker
marks off your windscreen - thieves know many owners leave these in
their vehicles in the glove boxes.
Local PCSOs will be identifying vulnerable properties on their
patrols and speaking with occupants of homes and vehicles to give
crime prevention advice.
Speeding is perceived as a problem throughout the villages in rural
areas. Community Speed Watch has recently been created involving
local residents. It can be very costly to be caught, so be warned.
We are actively seeking new members for Community Speed Watch so if
you are interested please contact Pc Claire Forster.
You can take action in a number of ways to help make your
neighbourhood a safer place to live, work and visit.
