Following a review of the way Essex Police receive reports, records
and details of Anti- Social Behaviour, other quality of life issues
and crimes, the use of Neighbourhood Police Team mobile telephones
will cease. Although it is recognised that some members of the
community value having the opportunity to speak with a member of
their local team, it has never been the case that these phones were
staffed and answered 24 hours a day. To assist with a more prompt
assessment of and response to calls and ensure the report is
recorded correctly and dealt with appropriately, we are switching
solely to the use of the non-emergency 101 number. This will
commence from the 1st September 2015. You are reminded that in
cases of emergency, please dial 999.
If you need crime prevention advice please take a look at the Be
Safe section of our website where you can find out how to keep you
and your family safe. Alternatively give us a call and we will be
happy to give you advice or call 101 and ask for Crime reduction
There has been a slight increase in dwelling burglaries across the
division. Please remember to keep all doors and windows securely
locked. Do not leave any keys or items of value near windows or on
obvious display. Please consider using timers on lamps to act as a
deterrent. Remember that outside security lights act as a strong
deterrent. Make your property look secure at all times. Consider
installing an alarm. Ensure that your house appears occupied at all
times. Remember CLOSE IT, LOCK IT AND CHECK IT!
Always beware of Bogus Callers who try and enter properties by
pretending to be from one agency or another, i.e. gas, water board
etc. Once inside your property they will try to distract you,
enabling possibly another person to enter the property and steal
anything to be of useful value. It is also worthwhile to security
mark all your expensive/attractive items which will assist in the
property being returned to you if that once stolen they are found
by police. Also for the ladies to be especially careful. Your
belongings may mean a lot to you but to a thief they’re just a way
of making quick and easy cash.

Mobile phone and personal music devices: Don’t forget to make a
note of the IME number of a mobile phone, to find it key in *#06#,
with this if it’s stolen you can block it. On many mobile phones
you can download an “App” to find your phone and more importantly
wipe that data stored on it, check your “App store” or mobile phone
provider. When texting or talking on phones, or listening to music
