Jim White

Inspector Jim White (Collar number 1077)

I have been a Police Officer with Essex Police for 20 years and still thoroughly enjoy Policing. I have been an Inspector for 10 years and as such have worked on Response at Chelmsford, Detective Inspector at Professional Standards, Head of Driver Training, Clacton Response, DI Crime Performance, Community Safety and Colchester Town Inspector. I now have a large area of Colchester to look after with my team at Colchester South. We cover Mersea , Abberton, Fingeringhoe, Birch, Layer, Tiptree, Rowhedge, Harbour, Berechurch, Shrub End, Stanway, Lexden, Prettygate and Copford. I am hoping you will find myself and my team very pro-active in tackling your concerns and you will see us out and about in the Community as much as we possibly can taking a firm line against anti social behaviour of any kind. If you have any problems drop me a line or email me or any one of my team. jim.white@essex.pnn.police.uk

Local Priority

Issue

Members of public parking on yellow Zig-Zags outside school during school times. This has been recognised as an ongoing issue outside many schools in the local area and has caused alot of problems during opening hours and closing hours of schools. The yellow zig-zag lines are put in place to allow a clear line of sight for drivers and also children during very busy times to prevent accidents and injuries. Near any yellow zig-zag lines will be a yellow sign clearly showing the times and the days that the restrictions are in place, and during these times the lines should be kept clear. The law does state that the zig-zag lines cannot be stopped on at any time during the restriction times and dates this includes to drop off a person or item or pick up for any amount of time this also includes a vehicle owner of a disabled blue badge. Failure to follow these restrictions could lead to a fine and points on your license, but also injury to a member of public using the pavement or road.

Local officers are aware of this issue and are doing regular patrols outside of schools to make members of public aware of the dangers. This is with parking attendants also present and are issuing tickets to people not following the restrictions.

Action

To reduce the risk of a bike theft occuring always make sure that they are secure by keeping it locked up in a shed or cupboard when not in use. When securing your bike in public areas make sure that it is in a position that can be seen by other members of public if possible in a view of CCTV cameras so this deters people attempting to steal your bike. Another way you can secure your bike and make it identifiable is by getting it coded, you can get this information on how to do this by contacting your local council or police station.
