Burham is part of the Maldon district and covers areas including Burnham South, Burnham North, East Wick, West Wick, Dammer Wick and Creeksea.

I am Pc Joanna Hawtin and I am the Neighbourhood Constable for the Burnham on Crouch area. I have been a police officer for 23 years and have spent the majority of that time working within the Maldon District involved with community policing. I am looking forward to another year working with local residents to make Burnham a pleasant and safe place to live.

I'm Mick Youd and I am a Police Community Support Officer. I have worked for Essex Police in this role for two years now. During that time I have got to know a lot of local residents and have worked with them to address local issues. Issue

Aquisitive Crime - The District has had an increase in Theft From Motor Vehicles and from Sheds and Gardens. Some of these thefts are taking place due to vehicles and property being left unlocked and insecure.

Action

Patrols have been targeted to identify Property and Premises that are insecure or easily accessed. Owners are given Crime Prevention / Security advice. An operation whereby there were increased officers on night shift patrolling the area, carrying out stop checks on vehicles seen moving about the Dengie. An operation covering the whole Dengie area, stopping vehicles similar to the type used in thefts of metal in the area. Distraction thefts in the area mainly at shops where a shopper is distracted by some means and then there purse/wallet removed. Local police and PCSO's are highlighting this type of crime within shops and stores. Continued thefts from secure and insecure vehicles, public urged to remove all valuables from vehicles when unattended. A slight decrease in this type of crime in our area over the past few weeks. This type of crime in our area is very low at the moment, which is unusual for this time of year, public still to be educated on the positives of ensuring to secure items away when not in use. More instances of theft of metal in the area, also Thefts from unattended motor vehicles. Regular patrols and checks carried out on persons and vehicles involved in this type of crime.

Environmental Issues-This is to include Dog fouling; Fly Tipping; Fly Posting and General Littering. All issues to be monitered and enforced by Maldon District Council Park Rangers and local police, taking a multi-agency approach.

Parking in High Risk Areas-This is to include all parking issues especially outside schools; Post Offices; Coronation Road and Barclays Bank. All of these will be monitered by Local Officers and PCSO's and Rangers from Maldon District Council

Update

There has been an increase in thefts from unattended motor vehicles which have been left unlocked and theft of catalitic converters.
Please ensure your vehicles are secured and all valuables have been removed from inside. There has also been an increase in burglaries so please ensure your homes are secured and, if possible, alarmed and lights left on during hours of darkness.

Thefts of metal; there has been an increase in this type of theft, either cable and other metal items from secure premises and insecure locations.

Please secure your property and mark it with postcodes.

Please report any suspicious behaviour to your local Neighbourhood Constable or PCSO's, and we will endeavour to keep you updated with any crime trends as the occur.

You can take action in a number of ways to help make your neighbourhood a safer place to live, work and visit.
