Hockley

It has been a busy few weeks in Hockley with the execution of a successful drugs warrant at an address in the town and the arrest of a suspect for numerous ‘Theft from Motor Vehicles’ in the Hawkwell & Rochford area.

In relation to these particular crimes, can I ask that should you have any information to do with the sale or production of drugs in the town – I’d be very happy to speak to you in confidence. With regards to the vehicle offences, the message is very clear and simple – please lock your car and avoid leaving anything of value displayed within (believe me, this will make a big difference to the likelihood of being a victim of this kind of crime)

Please note that since taking over the Hawkwell/Hockley Beat in March this year - I have decided that it would be more practical to have a single NAP meeting every month rather then separate meetings for Hawkwell & Hockley. I found that the same issues and problems were being discussed at both meetings and having the NAP’s amalgamated will free up an extra evening for me to be on duty in the town.

Finally, you may notice that one of the Local Priorities I wish to promote is the creation of more Neighbourhood Watch areas within Hockley. More news on this to follow but in the meantime, please contact me for information as to how to start up a Neighbourhood Watch scheme in your area.

Please continue to report anti-social behaviour to your Neighbourhood Team. There is also a dedicated anti-social behaviour coordinator at Rochford District Council, 01702 546366. Email communitysafety@rochford.gov.uk

You can report complaints of noise nuisance to Environmental Health Office at the Council on 01702 546366.

Many of these crimes could be avoided: Securing your property and removing valuables items from your car whilst unattended would certainly help.

Once a month, Neighbourhood Meetings are held at meetings at the Hockley Community Centre at the end of Westminster Drive (see the Events tab for dates). A member from the policing team attends with other key individuals; often including Neighbourhood Watch, Crimestoppers and Residents Associations amongst others.

Crime and anti-social behaviour is discussed as well as other issues raised that are affecting the community. Priorities are then set for the month so the issues can be resolved. The meeting is open to the public so if you are interested in attending, please come along and have your say. Alternatively you may wish to attend to represent a group or street.
