Update
Recently we have been targeted by car thieves who will steal the
property contained within your car or the car itself.
In order to reduce the incidence of what we refer to as car crime,
please consider the following when parking and leaving your car
unattended.
1) Lock the doors and close all the windows when you leave your
car, however long you intend leaving it. You would be surprised how
many people fail to do this.
2) When parking at home, always use your garage (assuming you have
one) lock the garage and car doors and close the windows. If you
dont have a garage, try to park in a well lit open place thats
overlooked by other homes. More chance that someone might hear or
see something and tell the Police about it. Criminals dont like to
get caught.
3) Keep your car keys in a safe place, even whilst at home, so that
anyone breaking into your home wont be able to steal your car
too.
4) When using public car parks, try to use one where possible that
is monitored by an attendant or close circuit television
(cctv).
5) Don't leave anything on display. Even an old coat or plastic bag
can be a tempting target for a thief wanting to make a few quid, it
all adds up.
6) Remove the stereo if you can.
7) Don't keep valuables or important documents in the glove box.
Leave the glove box open to show there's nothing inside to
steal.
8) Tuck in wing mirrors and put the aerial down to discourage
vandals.
9) Have the windows etched with the car's registration
number.
10) Get an alarm fitted to your vehicle. If a thief knows your car
is alarmed they are more likely to look for a softer target.
Remember a thief does not want to get caught so anything you can do
to increase the chances of them getting caught is likely to put
them off.
That is our 10 point plan which if followed may reduce the
likelyhood that you, or a member of your family is subjected to car
crime.
Where car crime has occurred 17 out of the last 20 offences
involved entry to an insecure vehicle.
All offences have been found by the victims in the morning
indicating the offences are occurring overnight.
Four of the offences had no items stolen, which indicates
opportunistic criminals rather than entering the vehicle for a
specific reason.
Prevention might be as simple as locking your car door. Keep it
secure and help us to help you.
Following the Neighbourhood Action Panel (NAP) meeting held on 30th
November 2011, the following locations were highlighted as
suffering from an increase in graffiti
Avon Way, Chelmer Way, Towerfield Close and Vanguard Way.
Police are working closely with other agencies and local schools in
an attempt to identify persons responsible.
Please contact police as soon as possible, if you see any offences
being committed or have any information in relation to this to
increase the chances of detecting these offences.
The following roads were identified for speeding and inconsiderate
driving
Maplin Way, Ness Road, Church Road, agle Way, Elm Road and Wakering
Road
Community Speed Watch has operated in these areas.
Community speed watch is a partnership between the local community,
local authority and Essex Police. They are a team of volunteers
trained to use a speed detecting device to gather data on motorists
that are speeding, in an attempt to raise awareness of the dangers
of speeding and anti social behaviour on the roads. Where
appropriate the driver/registered keeper of offending vehicles will
be sent a letter regarding their driving manner. Persistent
offending may well be further targeted by police.
Should anyone wish to become a volunteer for the Community Speed
Watch, and can spare one or two hours a month, please contact your
local Police Officers.
The following locations were highlighted as suffering from varied
amounts of Anti Social behaviour
Saxon Gardens & Delaware Road, Shoebury
Police and other agencies are engaged in combating these
issues
If you are suffering from Anti Social Behaviour please contact one
of our team via the listed contact methods.
Priorities will be reviewed at the next NAP meeting which is
scheduled for 25th January 2012 in the Police Office at
Shoeburyness High School, Caulfield Road commencing at 7-30pm. All
local residents are welcome.
To avoid becoming a victim of car crime, please remember to lock
your vehicle and remove any possessions, particularly sat navs,
their cradles and clean the ‘sucker marks’ from the windscreens, as
this could mean a thief will walk past your car rather than pay a
closer attention.
To avoid becoming a victim of burglary, always lock external doors
and windows when the property is left empty, even if just for a
short time. Use window locks (a burglar is less likely to smash a
window to gain entry). Don’t leave spare keys outside or in a
garage or shed. Lock all sheds as tools from a shed could be used
to gain entry to your house. Use timers or leave lights and radios
on, as this will create the impression that someone is in.
If anyone has information they wish to pass to your Neighbourhood
Policing Team please contact us on 07710 086590.
All information will be treated in confidence.
In situations requiring urgent police attendance the 999 system
should be used, this includes any offences that are being
committed.
All non emergency situations the new national number is 101.
