Below you can read about the issues you have made a
policing priority in your neighbourhood. We aim to act on the
issues that matter the most to you.
Local Priority
Burglary offences within Jaywick area.
Raised on 10/12/2011
The Clacton area continues to be effected by a series of
dwelling burglaries at this time. This is not isolated to Jaywick
but is across the entire town and wider area but Jaywick itself has
also been effected and a lot of work is being done to catch those
responsible. Within Jaywick itself empty properties are more
vulnerable and regularly targetted. We have recently made arrests
of some people for committing such offences which is a positive
step and will hopefully lead to a successful prosecution. At the
same time, there has recently been a multi-agency meeting to
discuss the numerous fires in the area and plans are coming
together for much more engagement in the area to educate people and
identify those most vulnerable. If any suspicious activity is
witnessed then please contact Essex Police immediately.

Update
In March Essex Police will go through one of the biggest
restructures it has ever seen. A lot of the behind the scenes
changes have already started but on 1st March the full re-structure
will take place. This has largely been caused by the need to reduce
our spending but in trying to achieve this goal the aim has been to
create a more effective policing structure bringing a better
quality of service and greater presence on the streets. Since early
January you would have noticed a slight uniform change with the
white shirts going and the police constables now having black polo
tops and the community support officers having the same but in dark
blue.
In looking at the current figures for the Clacton West area, sadly
comparing year on year the area has seen an 11% increase in crime.
However, looking in more detail at these figures certain core
crimes have in fact reduced. The area has seen a reduction in
arson, dwelling burglary, burglary other (i.e. shed breaks) and
theft of motor vehicles. There has been an increase in robberies
and incidents of criminal damage.
There is currently a burlgary series going across the area of
Clacton and the method of entry is for people to force front UPVC
doors. Sadly, what we are finding is that the vast majority of
victims have failed to double lock their doors. We would strongly
urge EVERYONE to review their own security measures and not wait
until they are a victim of crime before changing something. Please
ensure you double lock your doors, have car keys out of sight and
away from the front door and open windows so they can't be reached.
Make it more difficult for someone to get easy access to the rear
of your property by installing gates and ensuring they are locked
etc and do not leave ladders and gardens tools such as spades
insecure in your gardens as they are all too often used by
offenders to help gain access to properties. If you would like any
further security advice then please contact the team.
If you see any suspicious behaviour then please feel free to report
it to the team. Alternatively you can contact Crimestoppers free
and anonymously on 0800555111 or crimestoppers-uk.org.
Please phone the community mobile phone (07967 832 154) if you
experiencing any problems in your local area.
You can take action in a number of ways to help make your
neighbourhood a safer place to live, work and visit.
