Sgt Pete Gerard (Collar number 1998)

I have now served for 21 years within Essex Police and have served across the County. During that time I have predominantly served in roles that are front line and have dealt with the public direct. In actual fact I have a simplistic view of Policing, we are here to serve the public to the best of our ability and I strive to deliver that ethos every day. In the last 2 years I have been afforded the opportunity to Police the Walton area, it is a challenge and I hope again to be successful in keeping the area one that is safe and secure to live in.

Update

11/09/12

You will have seen in the local media the news around Walton Police Station and its announced closure. To clarify the situation, it has been confirmed that Essex Police will, in time, dispose of the building. The driver has been to achieve financial savings.

From the outset it had been muted that the station would close and Thorpe would become the operational base for all local officers. However I know that consultation by the local Council with Essex Police has actually created a better plan for the policing of our area. There have been some productive negotiations that have resulted in Essex Police giving an undertaking that local officers will still have a local operational base in the Frinton and Walton area. This is excellent news and I would liken the situation to other small towns where the Police are sharing buildings with other organisations, those set ups seem to be working really well. There is no timescale for the closure of the Walton Police Station, the local media will report as developments occur.

The Staff at Walton will continue to provide to provide the same level of excellent service and can still be contacted in the normal ways.

An update on Community Speed Watch, the volunteers are swelling in number! Despite the inclement weather, the members are deploying in high frequency. The local Councillors who were the original members of the group are being joined by local residents and all are keen to be involved in speed reduction in their community. To date they have observed and reported details of many speeders from varying locations across the area. Those drivers would have received a warning letter about their speed and hopefully will adjust their driving standards as a consequence. If any other residents wished to become involved please could they contact Pc 70932 Willmott at Walton Police Station on 101 extension 487552
