Police cook up youth plan |
By James Burrows

Police in Colchester have cooked up a plan to build bridges with young people.
Officers from the Harbour Neighbourhood Policing Team will give away a free burger and drink to teenagers who attend a youth evening on Friday 19 January.
Nuisance youths caught acting in an anti-social manner in the area often complain that there is nothing else to do.
So, police have teamed up with Colchester Council, Colchester Borough Homes and the Guinness Trust to serve up a solution for young people in the area.
Officers hope to discuss the issues with young people and get them to fill out a questionnaire on how they think their lives could be improved by way of activities and facilities.
The burger bar evening will take place from 7pm to 9pm on the green in front of Maple Way at the end of King George Road.
Bridget Tighe, Community Development Coordinator for Colchester Council’s community services, said: “I’m sure we have not bitten off more than we can chew and there will be enough to go around.
“However, let’s make this clear, if you don’t chat to us and fill in a questionnaire then you don’t get a burger."
The event is for young people who live in the areas that cover the roads of Pownall Crescent, Lord Holland Rd, Gurdon Rd, Queen Mary Avenue, King George Rd, Christopher Jolly Court, Sandringham Drive and Maple Way.
There have been reports of problems with anti-social youths in recent months, although these have subsided recently.
It is hoped youth projects and initiatives will be developed from a feast of ideas produced from the event. |
