Cash in transit robbery: Detectives continue to appeal for information
Detectives investigating an armed robbery on a security van in
Nazeing returned to the scene of the incident a week on to seek new
witnesses.
More than 120 vehicles were stopped and their drivers asked whether
they had any information about the robbery which happened at about
5.30pm on Tuesday, January 3, 2012.
A driver for the security firm G4S was forced to hand over
a significant sum of cash while he was making deliveries at
Nazeing.
About 14 hours earlier two men had forced their way into the
driver’s home at Harlow and threatened to harm him if he failed to
hand over the money at a pre-arranged location during that day’s
deliveries.
The security van involved in the robbery was parked in a lay-by
in Middle Street between 5pm and 7.30pm when the incident
happened.
Detective Chief Inspector Simon Parkes, of the Kent and Essex
Serious Crime Directorate, said that the stop check operation had
been fruitful and thanked drivers for their co-operation.
He added: "We located a number of witnesses who saw the van on
the night of the incident and we have been given a number of leads
which are now being followed up.
"We are getting great co-operation from people in the area.
Everyone is being extremely helpful especially those who use Middle
Street on a regular basis."
DCI Parkes also renewed the appeal for information about two men
who were caught on CCTV when they went to the driver’s home in the
early hours of January 3, 2012.
Anyone with information should ring the incident room on 01277
266835 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
