Do you recognise this couple?

Police are asking for the public’s help to identify a couple they wish to speak to in connection with a theft in Silver Street, Waltham Abbey.

At 11.35am on Wednesday January 19, 2011, a carer was collecting money from the post office on behalf of an elderly woman, when she was approached and distracted in the street by a man and woman producing a map and asking for directions.

As soon as the suspects left, she found the cash was missing from her handbag.

Sgt Sally Davies said: "We are keen to speak to this couple about this theft. I would like to alert people of this possible scam and remind people to be aware of their surroundings when drawing cash from ATM machines or post offices. If you are at all suspicious, contact your local police.”

Anyone with any information is asked to contact Sgt Sally-Anne Davies at Waltham Abbey police station on 0300 333 4444 or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
