Twin sisters Lauren and Emily Smoothy
won Essex Police Young People of the Year for their road safety
campaign ‘Driving with Grace’ which they started when their friend
Eleanor was killed in a road accident in March 2009.
Second prize went to Team 35 from the
Prince’s Trust who was nominated for the way that they helped
pre-school children and in doing so turned around their own
fortunes.

Third place went Rachel Aston who
helps young people who are fostered.
When Rachel’s parents began fostering Rachel decided she wanted to
help other fostered children teenagers who are in the care system
and she belongs to St John Ambulance in Maldon clocking up hundreds
of hours providing first-aid cover at public events. She also
represents the young people of Maldon on the Young Essex Assembly
and sits on a road safety group.

The junior runner up prize went to Partini - a group of five youngsters who raise
awareness of alcohol-related issues to their peers, especially to
students in the lower school at Beauchamps High School.
