50-year-old man charged with Braintree murders

A 50-year-old man has appeared in court charged with murdering a mother and her two-year-old daughter in Braintree.

David Oakes of Canney Road, Steeple appeared at Colchester Magistrates' Court on Friday, June 24, 2011 charged with the murder of Christine and Shania Chambers.

He was remanded in custody to appear at Chelmsford Crown Court on Monday, June 27, 2011.

Oakes had been in hospital under police guard since the bodies of 38-year-old Christine and Shania were discovered at a house in Bartram Avenue, Braintree on June 6, 2011.

He left hospital on Friday, June 24, 2011 and was taken to a police station in north Essex where he was charged with two counts of murder.
