Harlow 2SMART

School children across Harlow were treated to exhilarating performances while learning valuable safety lessons, thanks to the award winning 2SMART road show tour.

Nine local schools with approximately 1,500 pupils aged 11 and 12, were given the opportunity to attend the 2SMART road show at Harlow Sport Centre, Thursday, May 20.

While the pupils enjoyed the entertaining, vibrant and fun show they were also given important advice about the dangers around knives, drugs, alcohol and bullying as well as the dilemmas they may encounter as adolescents.

The aim of the show is to give young people an idea about the choices they are likely to face and how to make the right decisions when faced with similar situations.

The show is unique and a great way to teach young people, especially as each group of performers had a personal experience to share.

The whole show is interactive and the audience is encouraged to join in by calling out answers supported by using their true/false display cards.

A lucky few were selected to represent their schools and join the hosts on stage to participate in competition games and win prizes.

The performances included one of the UK’s top mountain bike trick riders, Rich Johnson as well as Kayzar Dance, giving electric dance performances.

There was also an incredible, action-packed show from two of the worlds top freestyle basketball players in Big Fen and A2W. The London Bus Theatre Company also performed multiple acts as school children and the problems they face.

Essex Police youth development coordinator, Jo Van Zanten, said: “2SMART is all about engaging with children and young people, teaching them important messages around alcohol, drugs, knives and bulling.

“We deliver these messages through a mixture of sport, dance, music, games and competitions.”

Pupils from around Essex are invited to write a song for the 2SMART tour 2011. The 2SMART team will then judge all entries and select a winning song, which will be performed at all 2SMART 2011 shows. Entries can be submitted on
