Message to Harlow shoppers

Police in partnership with The Harlow Lions Club have been handing out free message in the bottles to shoppers in the Harvey Centre.

The message in a bottle project is a simple idea designed for the more vulnerable people in the community.

It allows the emergency services to access vital medical information about you, should they be called to your home in an emergency. The scheme is free and simple to use.

A message in a bottle is basically a small bottle containing a form and two stickers.

All you have to do is:
1. Write your medical details on the form;
2. Place the form in the bottle;
3. Place the bottle in the fridge;
4. Of the two stickers; one should be placed on the inside of your front door and the other should be placed on the front of your fridge door.

PCSO Jenna McKinley said: “Therefore if anything happens to you and the emergency services are called to your home, they will see the stickers and can access vital medical information quickly to ensure you receive the correct medical treatment.

“The message in a bottle project provides peace of mind for you, your friends and your family.”

All emergency services are aware of the message in a bottle scheme and will locate the bottle and pass it on to a doctor or hospital personnel in an emergency.

To obtain a message in a bottle please contact The Harlow Lions club on 0845 833 5742.
