Police dogs in training

Twice a year, a team of young German Shepherds are put through their paces to train as general purpose police dogs.

Gunner, a pedigree purchased by Essex Police thanks to a donation from Chelmsford College, was teamed with handler Pc Paul Arthey for 13 weeks' training.

In the first of three films to be put on the website over the next few weeks, we meet the duo and watch them get to grips with tracking and searching, two of the key skills required of any police dog and handler.
