Force Magazine

UpBeat, May 2012
UpBeat is now an online-only publication. It is aimed at both
the public and the police officers and staff of Essex Police.
We have included hyperlinks to various web pages, where you can
find further information. However, those pointing to pages on the
internal Essex Police intranet have be deactivated.
The May 2012 issue finds out about a new high-tech 3D
laser scanner, which is set to reduce the time roads need to be
closed for investigation work folllowing serious accidents.
We find out how the Police National Database can help officers
and staff carry out 'more intelligent searches' and there is news
on the Athena project, a new 'one-stop' computer system which will
deal with cases 'from report to court'.
And it is the second anniversary of Neighbourhood Resolution -
in which police officers are encouraged to use their discretion
when dealing with instances of low-level crime and anti-social
behaviour, while still holding people to account for an offence
they have committed.
You can also find out about the new Police and Crime
Commissioners who will be replacing police authorities in elections
to be held across the country in November - and our preparations
for the London 2012 Olympic Games.
And we have details about the new mobile data terminals being
rolled out under the operational policing Blueprint, which will
allow our officers to stay out on patrol longer.
Plus there's plenty of other news and pictures from around the
force.
