Police seized one uninsured vehicle and issued a fine to a driver who had no tax. One parking ticket was also issued by Civil Enforcement Officers.

  • More than 70 people visited the SOS bus, where Colchester’s Crime Reduction Officer, Colin Stiff, was on hand to give advice. Visitors to the mini-SOS bus could also get a advice from an NHS adviser on smoking and sexual health.

  • Three pets were wormed and microchipped by the RSPCA, who also responded to one complaint about an animal.

  • More than 400 pupils at Mersea Island School got a taste of police life when officers arrived with a vehicle full of riot gear for them to try on. The DVLA delivered a crushed car to the school to help educate the pupils about car taxation and licensing and pupils took part in a competition to guess its make and model.

  • The Essex Probation Service Community Payback Team assisted with the clean up activity by clearing a previously inaccessible pathway from Victory Road.

  • Essex County Council’s Trading Standards visited five licensed premises and invited them to join up to the Challenge 25 initiative.

Chief Inspector Andy Fusher, district commander for Colchester, said: “I’m always impressed with the enthusiasm and energy of all involved with the Days of Action; the scheme is going from strength to strength.

“I’m really proud of the way we all work together in Colchester. It means we are able to tackle issues like anti-social behaviour so much more successfully and with greater, long-term effects.”

Councillor Tim Young Portfolio Holder for Housing and Community Safety Said: “Previous Days of Action have produced excellent benefits to local communities. We are delighted to be bringing the project to Mersea Island. By cracking down on anti-social behaviour such as litter and graffiti we intend to make a significant impact on the local community.

“Improving community safety and tackling crime is a priority for Colchester Borough Council. We are extremely pleased that the relationship we have with our partner agencies helps us to deliver these excellent results for residents.”

Essex Police, Colchester Borough Council, Essex County Fire and Rescue Service and Essex County Council were among the agencies who joined forces for the event.
