Hundreds of people met the
brand new advanced police cycle team in Southend at the
weekend.
The team, comprising of one sergeant, two police constables and
two police community support officers were on Southend seafront on
Saturday, June 12, engaging with the public, electronically tagging
bikes and offering bike safety and security advice.
The team were joined by the Southend Crime and Disorder
Reduction Partnership as well as Deputy Chief Constable Andy
Bliss.
Even though the team was officially launched on Saturday they
have been out and about for the last month as the first dedicated
cycle team in Essex Police.

It was a great
opportunity to engage with the public and for them to meet us; the
first dedicated cycling team in Essex and learn about what we do.

great success. We have spoken to so many people and made a lot of
bikes secure by electronically tagging them. It was a great
opportunity to engage with the public and for them to meet us; the
first dedicated cycling team in Essex and learn about what we
do.”
The launch of the team coincided with 'Cycle Southend' a day of
attractions and events cycle related on the seafront which included
stunts by MAD (Mountainbike Aerial Display Team) which is a dynamic
