Man arrested on suspicion of attempted robbery in Kelvedon Hatch

Update:

A man has been arrested on suspicion of attempted robbery following an incident at the Nisa store in Kelvedon Hatch, Brentwood on July 29.

The 20 year old man from Pilgrims Hatch was arrested on August 6, questioned and released on bail until September 18 for further enquiries.

Detectives are appealing for information after an attempted robbery at a shop in Kelvedon Hatch on Sunday, July 29, 2012.

A masked man armed with a knife ordered a female member of staff working at the Nisa Store to open the till at around 5.15pm.

The manager of the store in Blackmore Road rushed out from a storeroom and started throwing boxes of canned beer at the suspect who then fled empty-handed.

Investigating officer Dc Jo Phillips said: "This was an extremely frightening incident for the shop assistant and the customer who both feared for their safety when the man was waving the knife at them.

"The shop manager was in the storeroom when he heard the disturbance and rushed out and threw boxes of beer at the suspect.”

Any witnesses or anyone with information about the suspect should contact Dc Phillips at Basildon CID Target Offender Team on 101 or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.
