Five people injured in road crash

Police are appealing for witnesses to a road crash in which five people, including a toddler, were seriously injured.

Four vehicles, a white panel van, a black Peugeot Sport, a silver Volvo Vectra and a grey Fiat Punto, were involved in the collision in Sutton road, Southend on Wednesday, September 15.

A 55-year-old man from Rayleigh was arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving following the crash which happened at 10am.

A 68-year-old woman from Hockley was taken to Royal London hospital and is in a critical condition.

A two-year-old boy was taken to Southend General Hospital before being transferred to Great Ormond Street Hospital.

A 66-year-old man and 64-year-old woman from Southend were both taken to Southend General Hospital. The woman is being treated for a broken elbow and foot.

The arrested man has been bailed while officers continue their enquiries.
