Many people, from across the United Kingdom and beyond, have expressed their strong desire for Ian to receive a posthumous award for his courageous and selfless actions to protect his community.  Chief Constable Barker-McCardle is totally committed to ensuring that Ian’s bravery is fully recognised in the most appropriate and fitting manner.

There are several options for honouring Ian under consideration both locally and nationally. Any application must follow the customary protocols and should be led by the Chief Constable according to the prescribed process.  This may take several months.

In the meantime, Essex Police asks everyone to continue to respect the privacy of Ian’s family and friends during these difficult times.

Thank you again for your kind messages of support for our fallen colleague.
