We asked you to show us what Essex means to you by sending in your snaps of the county.

After reviewing all three hundred photo entries, the judging panel chose Jackie Bale’s photo of Chelmsford by night as the winner of Essex Police Photo Competition.

We have also used your photos in the headers at the top of our web pages. Hover over the images to see who took them. By refreshing the page you can see more images.

Jackie, from Chelmsford, said: "I took the photograph to show the clean lines and perspective of the urban landscape of the county town of Essex. Taken shortly before nightfall, the photograph follows the canal through the town centre towards the nightclub. Reflections from streetlights shine on the water and railings. Essex is a vibrant and energetic county. I hope the photograph reflects this."

Dan Blamey, from Canvey Island, came second with his photo of the oil refinery at Corringham after sunset. He said: “I think my photograph shows two sides to Essex and in particular the area in which I live. It shows a large scale development dominating the skyline with mixed with areas of sheer beauty. In my opinion the photograph combines the two and the dividing line can clearly be seen.”

Claire Ziwa, head of media at Essex Police, said: “We were extremely pleased to have received so many wonderful photos of Essex. It is important to us to make sure our website is accessible to all those who live, work and visit the county and that is why we want this site to be interactive and show user generated content.”
