Home Office Director General visits Thurrock
Stephen Rimmer, the Home Office Director General for Crime
Reduction and Community Safety, has visited Thurrock to find
out how the borough is tackling anti-social behaviour and
crime.

The visit, hosted by Essex Police and the Thurrock Community
Safety Partnership, highlighted the measures being taken against
anti-social behaviour and crime in general.
Mr Rimmer visited Grays High Street which before Christmas become
an alcohol free zone following the introduction of a designated
public place order (DPPO).
He also attended a Locality Action Group at the Grays Learning
Campus. The monthly meetings provide the opportunity for agencies
including Essex Police, Thurrock Housing, Social Services, and
Community Protection to address local issues. Concerns are raised
and referred to the group by individuals and agencies often through
the community forums which are held across the borough.
During the visit A/Supt
Alan Cotgrove and Thurrock Council Interim Chief Executive Bob
Coomber also met with Mr Rimmer.
A/Supt Alan Cotgrove said: “Anti-social behaviour is a key area
of focus in Thurrock and we are working hard with other members of
the partnership to tackle this nuisance as well as raise awareness
as to the effect it can have on the community. We were pleased to
have the chance to personally explain the efforts being made in the
borough.”
Delighted to have the opportunity to showcase Thurrock, Mr
Coomber said: “It was a pleasure to host this visit by Stephen
Rimmer and have the opportunity to show how Thurrock Council and
its partners work in tandem to tackle the perceptions and actuality
of crime and anti-social behaviour in the borough.”
After the visit Mr Rimmer expressed his thanks to Thurrock
Council and Thurrock Community Safety Partnership and praised the
strong partnership working particularly at the Locality Action
Group. He said: “It is great to see so many strands of the
partnership sharing information to ensure that the best action is
taken to address particular problems within Thurrock.”
