Reducing the risk of catalytic converter theft

Vehicle security is just as important as making sure your home is secure.

Metal theft, including the theft of catalytic converters, is a national problem and Essex Police is working to tackle those responsible in our county.

Officers are running overt and covert patrols and working with local scrap yards to catch those responsible but drivers of high clearance vehicles, on which catalytic converters are more exposed, are being reminded to think about security.

In the film above Crime Reduction Advisor Stephen Armson-Smith talks through some of the steps drivers of vehicles like vans, 4 x 4s and motor homes can take to help reduce the risk of catalytic converter theft.

If you know someone is stealing catalytic converters, call Essex Police on 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111. If you spot any suspicious activity around vehicles, please call Essex Police on 999 as soon as possible.
