The Data Protection Act 2018 gives you the right to access personal information (information about yourself) held by organisations.
You are able to obtain a copy of your personal information held by Police forces using a right known as Subject Access.
Subject Access is commonly used by an individual to obtain a copy of their Police National Computer (PNC) record i.e. convictions, cautions/warnings, reprimands and penalty notice for disorder (PND). This application may also be used to confirm that an individual does not have a PNC record.
However Subject Access is not just limited to PNC information. You have the same rights in respect to information held by Essex Police on other systems known as Essex Police Local Systems.
Application to Information held about you on the PNC
You should use this application to check your prosecution, conviction, caution, reprimands & warnings information held about you on the PNC.
To make such an application you will need to complete a data protection form which is available from the Association of Chief Police Officers Criminal Records Office website (ACRO). This will supply ACRO with the necessary information to search against PNC records.
In conjunction with the form you will also be asked to supply two forms of identification, further information as to how to provide these are detailed on the form.
The form should be submitted direct to ACRO at the below postal address. ACRO forms are not accepted by Essex Police.
Responses to these applications will be provided from ACRO direct to you at the postal address you provide on the form. A response will be dispatched within a statutory 40 day deadline.

Application to Information held about you locally on Essex Police systems
You may apply also apply for non-PNC personal information that is held on Essex Police systems (e.g crime recording system). To make an application please complete an A95 form.
You can get a one in two ways:
1. Download the A95 form, fill it in on screen, print it out and send it to us in the post.
2. Request a copy from an Information Officer by completing our contact us form or calling 01245 452647 (Mon-Fri 8:00-16:00). Be ready to state your full name and address and a form will be posted to you.
