Police Certificates for Emigration Visas
Some Embassy visa section will reject ACROSAR1 form responses and require a certificate specifically produced for visa purposes, these include visas, work permits or residence in Australia, Canada, New Zealand, South Africa, Belgium, USA.
If your application is for this purpose we would suggest you contact ACPO Criminal Records Office (ACRO), as below, for an updated list of countries covered.
To make an application for a certificate specifically for a visa application contact ACRO direct by visiting the Association of Chief Police Officers (ACPO) website for an application form.

Please note the certificate is processed entirely by ACRO, application should not be returned to Essex Police.
Applications for employment purposes
Under the Data Protection Act 1998 everyone has a right to see 'personal data' held about them on the Police National Computer (PNC); as per section 1 which details applications for PNC information.
However, such checks are not specifically designed for employment purposes. Whilst it is often used for this purpose, if your request is for employment please visit the Disclosure Scotland website. You do not need to live in Scotland to use this service.
