How to register
If you live in Essex and have been required to register with the police (an essential part of many foreign nationals’ visa conditions), you need to make an appointment at one of the police stations below. It would be best to choose the police station closest to where you live.
Please make an appointment to come to one of the following police stations:
Basildon Police Station Great Oaks Basildon Essex SS14 1EJ
You must visit one of these police stations to register and get your police registration certificate (PRC) within seven days of arriving in the UK. This is important, because if you don't you may face:
a £5,000 fine
a prison sentence
recommendation of deportation
a ten-year ban on entering the UK
We'll give you your PRC at the end of the appointment, after you complete registration.
If you change any of your personal or contact details whilst studying or working in Essex, you'll need to update your certificate with us as detailed above. Click 'Start' at the bottom of this page to complete our quick and simple online form.
Note: if you want to register changes of details at Colchester Police Station, you don't need an appointment. Just bring all the correct documents to the station during our opening hours.
You must report any of the following changes within seven days:
change of address
change of college/university/course
change of occupation
change in marital status
new landing conditions (re-entry visa)
new passport details
children once they are aged 16 or over
exemption from Police Registration
When you transfer to Essex
If you're already registered with another force and you move to Essex, you now need to register with us by coming to one of the police stations above. If you come to Colchester Police Station, you must make an appointment choosing the start button below.
If you lose your certificate
If you've lost your police registration certificate, please make an appointment in the same way, to get a replacement.
