Business crime

Businesses lose thousands of pounds every year due to crime whether it be fraud, burglary or graffiti.

As an employer it’s your duty to keep the workplace safe. That means taking steps to prevent fraud, making your premises secure and protecting your staff from crime.

Essex Police has a team of Crime Reduction Officers and Architectural Liaison Officers on hand to offer advice and answer security related questions. On the next few pages you’ll find their tips on how to make your business less likely to be affected by crime, leaflets to download and links to helpful organisations.

If you have any queries or would like some advice you can contact your local Crime Prevention Tactical Advisor.

You can tell us about non-emergency crime on-line at a time that suits you and we will call you back.

If your business has been a victim of crime and you report this to the police, you can make an Impact Statement for Business (ISB). The ISB gives you the opportunity to set out the impact that a crime has had on the business such as direct financial loss, and wider impacts, e.g. operational disruption or reputational damage. The court will take the statement into account when determining sentence.
