Dog Watch

Dog Watch

Dog Watch is an Essex Police led scheme to encourage dog owners and walkers to be the additional eyes, ears and paws within the community and be part of the extended Policing family.

Dog owners and walkers are familiar with area in which they reside and have the opportunity to spot anything out of place or suspicious whilst walking the dog.

Dog walking takes place at all times, early morning, during the day, during the early evening and late at night and it is during these times that suspicious activity maybe noted. Dog owners also have the opportunity to report anything suspicious whilst walking further afield on days out or whilst out and about enjoying the countryside.

Essex Police are now working in collaboration with Doglost UK.  DogLost are the UK's largest free lost and found dog service. Over the past 12 years they have reunited more than 55,000 missing dogs with their owners. Dog watch members will have the opportunity to learn more about Doglost UK  and take an active part in helping find lost and found dogs and receive advice regarding crime reduction measures in relation to dogs, homes and property.

The scheme works in much the same way as other Watch schemes in the county and calls for dog walkers to contact the Police or partnership agencies to report suspicious activity or concerns such as listed below.

Dog Watch helps by improving communication between owners / walkers and the Police who have a keen interest in helping to reduce and prevent crime and help to keep the areas in which you live, work or visit cleaner and safer places to enjoy.

You may note the following whilst walking the dog and you are encouraged to actively report any concerns

  • Suspicious activity / vehicles
  • Graffiti / vandalism
  • Nuisance vehicles / speeding
  • Anti-social behaviour
  • Fly-tipping
  • Dog fouling
  • Hare- coursing

Dog Watch also encourages responsible dog ownership locally and in the countryside.
