Any kind of sexual assault can be a terrifying and traumatic experience and it’s not unusual to have problems returning to normal life and interacting with family and friends.
Don’t be frightened to ask for help. There are local support groups with specially trained counsellors who will understand your needs and take time to listen.
Your officer can contact them for you or explain how you can do this yourself if you prefer.
You’ll find a list of helpful contacts in the Help section.
Any information you give your counsellor will be treated in strict confidence and many will be happy to accompany you on hospital or court visits should you like them to.
If you decide you would rather not have counselling immediately, we or your doctor can help arrange this at a later date.
