Thurrock is on the north side of the river Thames, immediately to the east of London. It has a population of around 176,000 people. The district borders Basildon and Brentwood and is on the M25 and A13 corridors. Thurrock also has three international ports. Thurrock is 64 square miles and includes the towns of Corringham, Grays, Purfleet-on-Thames, Stanford-le-Hope, South Ockendon and Tilbury. It also has rural villages such as Bulphan, Orsett and Horndon on the Hill.
