Confirmed that Essex Police have no agreed plans to launch the use of Retrospective Facial Recognition (RFR) technology and that the initiation of any project or technology involving personal data must be compliant with various Essex Police policies, procedures and processes.

This policy relates to the use and governance of Live Facial Recognition technology.

Essex Police is not currently testing/evaluating the use of Body Worn Video (BWV) in concert with Facial Recognition Technology for overt policing. Essex Police can neither confirm nor deny any other information is held in regard to the covert use of Facial Recognition Technology when utilised in conjunction with any other type of wearable or carried device.

Essex Police does not use Hikvision products or Facial Recognition software for overt policing.

E-Learning and face to face Unconscious Bias Training figures from 2018 to April 2021. The current Unconscious Bias Training provided does not cover Live Facial Recognition Software.

Essex Police does not use 'super-recognisers'. Possibility was explored with University of Greenwich in 2015/16, but this did not progress.
