Reassessment of injury pensioners degree of disablement
The PPA has set the following objectives/principles to be applied.
The process must discharge the PPA’s legal obligations, including meeting his legal commitments to honour injury benefit payments at a level to which each pensioner is entitled;
It is not about savings or cost cutting – there will be no savings target; and
The process shall be fair and transparent, having proper regard to the welfare of those affected.
Between the period 2001 and to 2011 the reassessment of degree of disablement (commonly referred to as injury award review) was conducted on a regular basis in respect of all eligible Essex Police injury benefit pensioners.
The Scheme Manager (Chief Constable) has a legal responsibility to recommence reassessment of the degree of disablement in respect of all eligible Essex Police injury benefit pensioners.
Within these pension pages you will see some useful guidance for injury benefit pensioners including;
A flow chart showing the key steps to be applied in the reassessment process.
A comprehensive briefing note explaining in detail the methodology and factors that may affect an injury benefit pensioner’s degree of disability.
This methodology has been subject to consultation through the Essex Police Pension Board and NARPO. Please observe there are some exceptions to injury benefit pensioners in scope for reassessment of degree of disablement. See briefing note for further detail.
All Essex Police injury benefit pensioners will be notified of the intention to recommence reassessment of degree of disablement (commonly referred to as reviews) by letter and provided with a copy of the briefing note and flow chart contained within these pages.
It is the intention to re commence the reassessment of degree of disablement in respect of all eligible Essex Police injury benefit pensioners from April 2021.
