DASH Risk Assessments
N/A
Can I please make a FOI request in relation to domestic incidents. I am specifically looking at intimate partners which have resulted in an incident in the Colchester area.
Can I ask if Domestic Abuse Risk Assessments are completed on a tablet or paper form?
When this transition was made from paper form to tablet form if this is the case?
Can I also ask from when this transition was made have more or less DASH risk assessments been completed in relation to domestic incidents between intimate partners?
A period of 6 months before the transition and 6 months after would be beneficial.

Having completed enquiries within Essex Police in respect of Section 1(1)(a), Essex Police does hold information relating to your request, Essex Police can confirm in respect of Section 1(1)(b) the following data:
Caveat: The data is correct as at 23 July 2021.
Can I ask if Domestic Abuse Risk Assessments are completed on a tablet or paper form?
The majority of the time they will be completed on mobile devices, however, Officers could still do them on a paper copy and then when the incident is recorded on Athena, it would be transferred to the Athena DASH Risk Assessment, this goes through a quality and assurance process.
When this transition was made from paper form to tablet form if this is the case?
The transition from paper records began with the introduction of the Athena system in 2015. Mobile devices were introduced at a later date. When a DASH is completed on a mobile device, it automatically updates an Athena record on the system.
Can I also ask from when this transition was made have more or less DASH Risk Assessments been completed in relation to domestic incidents between intimate partners?
Policy dictates that a DASH Risk Assessment needs to be completed with every Domestic Abuse incident, be it intimate or familial and should then be reviewed by a supervisor. The Force Control Room will not close the incident until a DASH has been recorded to ensure that one has been completed for every incident.
A period of 6 months before the transition and 6 months after would be beneficial.
There was no definitive date that we moved from paper DASH to tablet form. This has been a gradual roll out, with more and more mobile devices (tablets) being issued to Officers. If paper forms are still competed, when the incident is recorded on Athena it would be transferred to the Athena DASH Risk Assessment, this goes through a quality and assurance process.
