Electric Scooter Seizures 2020 to 2024
January 2020 to April 2024
The Government’s Department for Transport (DfT) has made orders that only designated hire scooters are legal during trial periods and in specific trial areas. Trials have been run across the country in various locations. Any E-Scooters used anywhere other than the trial areas remain illegal (unless used on private land).
For Essex, trials have taken place in the defined areas of Basildon, Braintree, Brentwood, Chelmsford and Colchester. As part of their Safer Greener Healthier Campaign, Essex Highways are working with Spin on the Electric E-Scooter trials.
Essex Police work with Essex Highways closely through the Safer Essex Roads Partnership (SERP). SERP comprises Essex Police, Essex County Council, Southend-On-Sea Borough Council, Thurrock Council, Essex Fire and Rescue Services, Highways England and Essex and Hearts Air Ambulance Trust.
