Firework Incidents
15th October 2020 to 14th November 2020
Can you supply the following information for between the 15th of October, up to and including the 14th of November 2020.
1) The number of calls received by your force, regarding firework use.
2) The number of incidents where fireworks have been used against your Police officers.
3) The number of incidents of illegal use of fireworks.
4) The number of incidents of anti-social behaviour regarding fireworks.
5) Provide all records you may hold of any injuries relating to firework use.

Section 1 of the Freedom of Information Act 2000 (FOIA) places two duties on public authorities. Unless exemptions apply, the first duty at Section 1(1)(a) is to confirm or deny whether the information specified in a request is held. The second duty at Section 1(1)(b) is to disclose information that has been confirmed as being held. Having completed enquiries within Essex Police and in respect of Section 1(1)(a), Essex Police does hold some data relating to your request, Essex Police can confirm in respect of Section 1(1)(b) the below data

Two Universes were used to gather the data for this data request:
Athena Crime: The number of incidents where fireworks were used illegally, against police officers and that involved injuries from the use of fireworks were gathered from this Universe.
The ‘Initial Modulus Operandi’ data field was used to filter out only firework-related incidents.
For firework incidents involving any injuries, the ‘HMIC Crime Level 3’ data field was specified as: ‘VIOLENCE WITH INJURY.’
The ‘HO Classification Code’ data field was specified as: ‘8S’ and ‘104’ to filter out records involving assaults on police officers and constables.
Storm: ASB incidents involving fireworks and calls received by the force regarding the use of fireworks were gathered from the STORM Universe.
The ‘Final call type’ data field was selected to be ‘FIREWORKS’ to filter out only calls received by the force involving fireworks.
The disposal codes of ‘ASB-N’, ‘ASB-E’ and ‘ASB-P’ were selected to highlight only firework incident records involving anti-social behaviour incidents. These codes stand for: Antisocial behaviour Nuisance, Antisocial behaviour Environment and Antisocial behaviour Personal respectively.
Dates: 15th October 2020 to 14th November 2020
Between 15th October 2020 and 14th November 2020, a total of 604 calls were received by Essex police force regarding the use of fireworks.
Of these, 572 firework incidents of anti-social behaviour have been recorded. Their breakdown, by their individual details, is shown below:
