I am writing to make a request under the Freedom of Information Act 2000.
My request concerns hate crime offences where the motivating factor was sexual orientation or transgender identity.
Could you supply the following figures for each calendar month in 2019, 2020 and 2021, up to August 31 2021 (or the most recent available month):
(1) The total number of hate crime offences recorded by your force in each month where the motivating factor was sexual orientation, or transgender identity. Please include separate totals.
(2) Of the totals for (1), how many were offences classed as violence against the person.
(3) Of the totals for (1), how many were classed as online offences.

Having completed enquiries within Essex Police in respect of Section 1(1)(a), Essex Police does hold information relating to your request, Essex Police can confirm in respect of Section 1(1)(b) the following data:
Caveats:
The data is correct as at 13 October 2021.
The Home Office Classification of ‘NC/10’ was used to bring back all the relevant Hate Crime Offences and Records.
Two Hate Types were applied as filters to retrieve the relevant records: 1) Hate – Sexual Orientation and 2) Hate – Transgender Identity.
The Offence Group was used as a filter to gather all the relevant Violence Against the Person and Online Offences Records.
The results include both Crime and Non-Crime Hate Incidents.
