Hate Crime Definitions:
Hate Motivation; Hate Crimes and incidents are taken to mean any crime or incident where the perpetrators hostility or prejudice against an identifiable group of people is a factor in determining who is victimised. This is a broad and inclusive definition. A victim does not have to be a member of the group. In fact, anyone could be a victim of a Hate Crime.
A hate incident (recorded as a Non Crime Hate Incident) is:
Any non-crime incident which is perceived, by the victim or another person, to be motivated by a hostility or prejudice based on one or more protected characteristics.
A hate crime is:
Any criminal offence which is perceived, by the victim or another person, to be motivated by a hostility or prejudice based on one or more protected characteristics.

Some incidents were not designated to one specific Hate Incident Type Group, instead they involved Multiple Hate Motivating Factors. Such incidents have been allocated to the category: ‘Multiple Hate Incident Types’.
The results include Hate Crime volumes and Non-Crime Hate Incident volumes in separate tables.
The Home Office Classification of ‘NC/10’ was used to bring back all relevant Hate Crime Offences and Records.
<5 = Less than 5. Specific numbers of less than 5 will not be provided as to do so may identify individuals.
